Comparing the feature points in the real time image from the camera installed in the car with 3D points in CV image as 3D Map, the current coordinates and the posture of the running vehicle can be specified in real time without any GPS.
Moreover the accuracy of the position and the posture is much higher than that of GPS.

This technology is high accuracy vehicle position which use the three dimensional map
called as "Mechanical Map".
This includes three-dimensional map and real-time image, without traditional map matching system like GPS, gyroscope and speed pulse.
Moreover, it navigates on real-time image. We can assign this technology as an essential technology of the next generation car navigation system.

Mechanical Map

It is map data made of three-dimensional features that it has absolute coordinate on camera vector.
We called "Mechanical Map", meaning "Map for machine to use it".
The data is neither useless data nor the texture, it is not meant to us it manually and the size of the data is very less.

Next Generation Car Navigator (old technology)

Introducing our company's latest technology "Next Generation Car Navigator2".
Using 4π Video Map as the 3D image map, it recognizes and compares feature points in the real time image from the camera installed in the car, to the 3D points in 4π Video Map. It acquires the correspondant points, then the current coordinates (Camera Position) and the attitude of the car can be found in real time. And the demonstration of real time information that the driver can see in the front side image can be introduced.

  • Please see many types of location information CG accurately copied and shown in real time image, which are set beforehand in 4π Video Map (3D image map).
  • Using 4π Video Map (3D image map) as benchmark and image processing, without using GPS, we achieve to acquire vehicle's current location and attitude accurately, and inform the driver with the real image car navigator.
  • On the left is the real time image from the camera equipped in the car. On the right is the "4π Video Map" to be used as 3D image map.
  • The system compares the real time image on the left with the " 4π Video Map " on the right, then automatically acquires corresponding points, calculates the current coordinate position (Camera Position) and the direction of the car in real time, and then displays by CG in " 4π Video Map " on the right or even in Navigator map.
  • Present location and the posture of the vehicle shall be acquired only by image data processing without using GPS. And the "Next Generation Car Navigation System" that guides the drivers using the movie taken from life image is eventually achieved. Naturally, it is also possible to display it in a general navigator map.
  • When three dimensional position and the posture of the vehicle become known and the vehicle is controlled to the purpose of direction, the automatic driving is achieved.

We can say, this is probably one step before the automatic driving technology.
